2011 Thunder Tour To The Nationals

DAY 1 13th Feb 2011

Christchurch – Wanganui 531ks of Blisss Riding.
Staying at Anndion Lodge. Fellow Harley Riders Anne and Dion will be sure to look after us like last year. Anne and Dion will do another BBQ dinner, book your dinner in with Anne. We would need to get away by 7.30am-8am, so be at the Peg Hotel, Main North Road, fuelled and ready to go by 8am. Bookings for the ferry aren’t available as yet, so keep in mind to book that closer to the time, around a 1pm sailing.

There is the option to head up the night before and stay at fellow HOG members Arnold and Chillie,s, Blenheim top 10 Holiday Park . Arnold and Chillie are great hosts. The group coming up from CHCH will call in and meet you there, then we are off to catch the boat over to Wellington.

DAY 2 14th Feb 2011

It’s a blast off to Whangarei, my home town. It’s a big day of riding, but lets get up to the Far north, there is so much to see... It’s a great ride and its only 592ks away.
We will stay at the top 10 Whangarei.

DAY 3 15th Feb 2011

This will more than likely be the ride of the trip.. Whangarei to Kaitaia via Dargaville
Waipoua forest and the beautiful Omapere…We will need to keep the group together, its easy to get lost in the north..so keep a rider in your mirror, and when we make a turn, make sure you stop until the rider in your mirror can see the turn off etc. I will have a TEC (tail end Charlie) on this part of the trip. Its about 297ks of riding.. No rush on this leg, just lap it all up. Whatuwhiwhi could just be the spot to stay the night..

DAY 4 16th Feb 2011

We will be up early and off to the lighthouse, this is the top of Aotearoa New Zealand…From there we back track 129ks, down to Cable Bay and we will end up in Paihia for 2 nights. This is the Bay of
Islands, kick back and relax.… 85ks of riding on this leg. From here book into any of the following for a fair deal. “YOU CHOOSE”

DAY 5 17th Feb 2011

We are still in the Beautiful Bay of Islands, I thought it would be a good place to have a day off, to chill out, do a touch of fishing or do a ride around the coast down to Oakura Bay.. It’s a great place for sight seeing..

DAY 6 18th Feb - 20th Feb

Its time to head back south to the National Hog Rally in Hamilton, it’s a 350k ride back to the rally. From here you can meet up with old friends, make some new friends and enjoy the weekend… Then when you’re ready, make your way back to home.


This ride is open to all HOG members , feel free to start the trip from ChCh, or catch up with us from any of the Top 10 Holiday parks, we hope to be on the road by 8.30 - 9.00am most mornings.

For those coming on this ride YOU MUST book all your own accommodation and ferry crossing’s. All the Info is here, destinations etc.

So book in your Holidays at work , and make accommodation bookings ASAP ,the Accommodation will fill up fast.
